Abstract

The rapid expansion of the gig economy, remote work, and digital transformation has significantly reshaped labour markets and economic systems worldwide. This paper examines the economic drivers behind these interconnected developments, including digital platforms, technological innovation, globalization, and changing workforce preferences. It explores the economic implications of platform-based employment, remote working models, and digital infrastructure from both global and Indian perspectives. The study highlights labour market trends, productivity impacts, regulatory frameworks, and policy challenges associated with flexible employment arrangements. Furthermore, it discusses the opportunities and risks related to income security, social protection, digital inclusion, and future workforce development. The analysis concludes that balanced regulatory policies, investment in digital skills, and improved social protection mechanisms are essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive growth in the evolving digital economy.
