Abstract

Couroupita guianensis is used extensively as an ingredient in many ayurvedic preparations which cure gastritis, scabies, bleeding piles, dysentery, and scorpion poison. The flower was subjected to extraction with petroleum ether and chloroform solvents. Compounds (CGA-I) octyl 4-(nonanoyloxy) benzoate along with myristoleic acid (CGA-II), linoleic acid (CGA-V) and (8E, 10E, 12E)-icosa-8, 10, 12-triene) (CGA-VIII) were isolated by column chromatography and characterised with IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectral data.
